Day 36 of Lent +++ Gifts from the heart

Gifts from the heart

According to the European Parliament in 2017 “Some 88 million tonnes of food are wasted in the EU every year, equivalent to 173 kilos per person”  and it has Belgium as the second worst offender at this.

In this Gospel passage Judas claims that the perfume went to waste and that it could have been sold with the proceeds going to the poor. Even though his intentions were to steal that money, he makes a valid point. However, the reason I believe it’s not a waste is because it’s an act of thanksgiving and worship to Jesus. When Jesus was born he was given gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. As we see towards his death he is honoured with another gift. It’s important to give our thanks to the Lord for all that he has done for us, which is by living our lives for God. We also need to give worship. The more you grow in your relationship with God, the more you can give in your time and talents in worship. It doesn’t have to be an expensive gift like the one Jesus was given but one that comes from the heart.
