Light in the Darkness

Monday 7th December
Isaiah35                   Esaie 35

“Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; for your God will come”

In the past three months, our world as we have known it has changed dramatically, irrevocably, with the arrival of thousands upon thousands of refugees from places that are so often mentioned in the news, pictures of ruined cities and blasted landscapes. The people from those places – men, women, and children – have now become our neighbours.

This is the time of advent – a time of hope and remembrance that our Saviour was born, and will be reborn, to carry the sins of this world for us. In return, he asked of us to love our neighbour, to “strengthen feeble hands and steady the knees that give away”…of our neighbour. It seems a simple thing, considering the offer that was made on our behalf.
A hope and a prayer are often all that someone fleeing war and pain has with them when they arrive in a strange new land. I pray that in this time, we may all serve our Lord by bringing some measure of peace to those who need it most, that we may love our neighbour as Jesus commanded us, and that His light may shine upon the darkest places of the world.
