John 10.22–end
This passage is a wonderful summary of what Jesus has done for us in enabling us to draw near to God!
The sub-heading in my bible reads “A call to persevere”. This could sound like hard work - and isn’t Lent supposed to be hard work after all? But a verse that stands out for me is verse 24 “Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds”. We all have enormous potential to start domino effects of love and good deeds. I read a lovely example of this in a novel recently. The setting is a Starbucks café. One morning a woman in line for no apparent reason pays for the coffee of the person behind, and then he turns round and pays for the customer behind him. And then he pays for the woman behind him, and this goes on for about 45 minutes until there is a lull and a quiet period of no customers breaks the chain. The novelist describes this as “a piece of magic while it lasted”. We simply call it love.
