Do not be afraid*

Thursday 1 December
Isaiah 44.1-8

There is much we can be fearful of at the current time.  We are fearful of political changes.  We are fearful of the impact of decisions such as Brexit will have not only on our current situations but also our future.  We are fearful of the increasing polarization of politics, of societies, of economies.  We are fearful that conflict today cannot be identified by sides but consists of pockets of terror.  We are fearful that we many once again be touched by terror.  We might be fearful of our neighbour or those newly arrived in our country.

Fear is real, God recognises that.  Fear can be seen throughout the Bible - Adam and Eve being afraid of what God might say when He found out about that apple... Moses being afraid of the job God gave him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.. Mary initially had fear when the Archangel Gabriel told her she was to give birth to the son of God.  Yet in Isaiah we are reminded that when we have that feeling of fear we are to remember that God can take away that fear, can bring us peace.  If we belong to the Lord, then we have nothing to fear  -  the Lord's way is always the right way.
