Day 7 of Lent +++ Bridge building

Tuesday 3 March

Bridge building

At the Tuesday evening home group, we often tie the week’s sermon to the practice of being a ‘good’ Christian. It instantly begs the question: what exactly makes a ‘good’ Christian?

In associating his purpose and power with the Father, Jesus speaks an unfathomable truth. Empowered by the salvation that only God could offer and the humility that humanity possesses, Jesus was – and is - our bridge to the Father. He connects us to eternal life, unconditional love, and everlasting light.

We cannot afford, however, to take this bridge for granted. Neglect a bridge and it will wither; use it without care, and it will break; defy it, and no one will find it. If there is no holistic definition of the ‘good’ Christian life, then at the very least let us start by building this bridge together. If we are witnesses to slivers of heaven here on Earth, let us catch those moments and replicate them infinitely so that our own thoughts, words, and deeds will start to reflect that same goodness.

We are all capable of good. We know this because of Jesus: the only Son of God, sent as a living invitation to build the bridge. Included in the envelope was less a fear of judgment and more an epiphany of the beauty that is possible when we come together.

Let’s keep building.
