To come into God’s rest
This reading prompted me to think about rest. We
don’t talk about it very often. More time is spent talking about performance,
results, hard work, achievements.
In this passage, we hear about God’s rest. God
Himself created the world, and rested on the seventh day. My grandparents used
to keep strictly to Sunday being the Sabbath, the Day of Rest. They worked hard
for six days, and then they rested. My grandmother used to say that this was
how they got all their work done. Rest is important.
'God rested'
Nowadays we can be online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are no pauses unless we plan them, and deliberately keep them. God welcomes us into His rest. Only when we are quiet can we listen to Him. Only in quiet can we hear His word. We can come before Him without filters, without masks. Let us enjoy this rest. Let us come before Him and let our minds be still. We will be blessed.
