Tuesday 16 March +++ The price He paid

The price He paid

Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Couldn't He have saved us and lived a happy life on earth while spreading the Word with His disciples ? Hebrews 9.15-28 tells us blood had to be shed ; “even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood” (v.18). His blood symbolizing His dying on our behalf.

Just like the potter in Jeremiah 18, the Father could have done with us whatever He pleased.

Instead, by His great love for us, He decided, not to overlook our sins (because death still was the penalty for sin) but to send His only son as a sacrifice. By Jesus' death, we are forgiven and He therefore becomes the Mediator (Hebrews 9.15).

The psalmist in Psalm 79 was crying for God's mercy on Israel. Nowadays, forgiveness seems so easy, knowing that Jesus already died on the cross. In this time of Lent, let us reflect on the price Jesus had to pay for our salvation and let us not take this most beautiful gift for granted. And in return, proclaim His praise from generation to generation.(Psalm 79.13)
