Feeding the hungry

 'Community Kitchen'

From Holy Trinity Brussels web page (https://www.holytrinity.be/community-kitchen).

Just like his healing miracles, Jesus’ feeding of the crowd shows his compassion for people in need. But even more than that, it demonstrates how the kingdom of God is present in the act of providing and sharing food. As the disciples responded to Jesus’ prompting to share the little food they had, they found that their act of giving was blessed so that thousands were satisfied. And there were leftovers to enable them to feed the next crowd! Through the work of the Community Kitchen this year we have been able to experience this blessing. By using our church resource (the kitchen) to provide for people in need, we have been privileged to take part in the kingdom ministry of Jesus. Just as Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes, so he has multiplied our volunteers, the contents of our pantry and our funds. The people we feed have profound and complex needs, which continue after each meal. But at the moment of preparing and sharing food to satisfy someone’s basic need for nourishment, Jesus is present. We look forward to opportunities to experience this blessing as we prepare food for distribution to people in need over what we expect to be a particularly hard Christmas period.
