Do not fear

Thursday 10th December
Isaiah 41.13-20                Esaie 41.13-20
Psalm 145.1, 8-13               Psaumes 145.1, 8-13

‘For I am the Lord your God
who takes you by your right hand
and says to you, do not fear; I will help you’

These words (Isaiah 41:13) immediately struck me. They struck me because of the undercurrent of fear that runs through so much of modern life. Underneath all the potential and possibility of our age lurks a huge medley of fears, personal and social. Will we get a job? Are the kids going to be ok? What about climate change, terrorism, cancer? Above all, we fear the exposure of our fear to other people. What if everyone else realised how scared we are?
When presented with our worries, God has a very simple answer. ‘Do not fear, I will help you’. Simple as that. We hear the absolute confidence of our Redeemer the God who can reverse any negative situation. Our fears may push us to the very brink, may make us feel as pathetic as a worm, but our God takes us by the hand and guides us through. In fact, God promises to completely reverse our situation, even when we think this is impossible. God can turn a desert into pools of water, and make it bloom. God can give us strength to turn our obstacles into powdered chaff and blow them away in the wind. God can turn the tears of mourning into the joy of redemption. This is the Lord our God, who is bigger than any of our fears. This is the God who promises us help.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
Dieu promet de nous guider à travers même les circonstances les plus difficiles.
God belooft om ons te leiden door zelfs de zwaarste omstandigheden.
