Ps 6, 17
Galatians 4.21–5.1
John 5.30–end
Do you sometimes feel burdened by a ‘yoke of slavery’ ( Gal. 5:1) ? Christ came to set us free, yet we so often live as slaves – slaves to our work, or our possessions, to money, to our family, or perhaps to an unhealthy life-style, or to impure thoughts. Lent is the time when we try to practise self-discipline, but in our own strength we are bound to fail!
We just can’t free ourselves from our own particular form of slavery. In fact we often choose to live ‘under the law’ – making up little ‘laws’ or rules for ourselves, and gaining a certain satisfaction in keeping them! How many marks out of ten will you score today?
How wonderful it would be if we could really enjoy the freedom that Christ offers... if our lives, our thoughts, our attitudes were so in tune with His that we could live life to the full! Let’s admit we have failed, and start afresh with Christ today!
