Monday 14th March
Life can sometimes crash down around us, either very tangibly as for the citizens of Christchurch in February, or more intangibly because of our life circumstances, relationships etc. Jeremiah does not hold back in his description of the horrors that can befall us. Anguish and agony of heart, fear of the needing to fight, a sense of being misunderstood, fear that things will never be the same again, despair that others desert you, being scornful when others try to “patch over” the wounds, resignation to the fact that even creatures that are newly born are doomed to die.
For better or for worse, God is in control though God is unswerving, steadfast, with eyes set forward. He will not relent; we have to go through what we go through whatever our pain. But life, and life with God, is never without hope. We might be battered and damaged, but we are alive. Let’s today take the threads of our lives and rebuild them into God-breathed beauty and harmony.
