Where your treasure is

Ash Wednesday, 9th March

Daniel 9.3-6,17-19

Psalm 38

1 Timothy 6.6-19

Luke 15.11-32

1 Timothy 6:6-19.

In both this passage and when Jesus talks about wealth and worry in Luke 12, the conclusion is simple – give stuff away. Not because it is good for others, although that’s true, but because it is good for us. There are deep and fundamental things happening inside us to do with our understanding of hope and security when we give things away.

Jesus does not say, ‘Where you heart is, there your treasure will be also,’ but he says, ‘where your treasure is, there you heart will be also’ (Luke 12:34). One follows the other.

Seek ye first…

Read Luke 12:33 and 1 Timothy 6:17-19.

Lent is about giving up or taking up certain things in order to see other things more clearly and to better understand the joy of what Easter means when it comes around. Give up holding our money too tightly, take up the seeking after God’s kingdom I trust that by doing this we may take hold of the life that is truly life.
