Waiting…
En Attandant...
In these Psalms we hear the struggle of the human condition. We suffer. We are weak. We feel forgotten and alone.
Is there an answer to this struggle? Yes, eventually: “the Lord is a refuge for the oppressed”…“you, Lord have never forsaken those who seek you”…“he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted”…“God will never forget the needy”…
At times we may feel frustrated, abandoned, and as if we have a God who does not listen. We might shout “hear my voice when I cry”…”do not reject me or forsake me”…”do not turn a deaf ear to me”.
But…we must wait: “Wait for the Lord. Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
I don’t know why we must wait. But perhaps there is something in the waiting? Like waiting for the cake in the oven until it’s fully baked, or for the right time to open our presents. Anticipation, seeking, yearning - maybe this does something for us. As a song I know says: “you can’t microwave love”.
Advent is a time of waiting. Remembering the long awaited Messiah. Waiting for something good. May we learn to wait.
