Day 18 of Lent +++ Do we rest?

Do we rest?

When you’ll be reading this mediation, I’ll be very busy preparing for our annual concert by finishing the decorations of the hall and making sure everything will run smoothly for the concert in the evening. The next day will also be a very frantic day as we need to try and empty the hall and clean it by midday.

But do we take time in our busy lives to rest? I don’t think so. Today there’s always a shop open somewhere each day of the year. Sometimes you don’t even realise that you’re actually living in a Christian country.

Christopher Idle has written a hymn based on vs 12-13: How sure the Scriptures are1. Which is definitely worth a looking up if you have time. I really like the last line: For God speaks still – His word is clear, so let us hear and do His will! But are we capable of hearing God in this busy world of ours and do we actually do His will or more realistically do we just do our will?

So we’ve got a challenge ahead of us that we need to take time to rest and listen out for God and do His will.
