Day 8 of Lent +++ For FREEDOM Christ has set us free

For FREEDOM Christ has set us free

God's will for us is to live in freedom. In fact, it is God's unqualified command: stand fast in freedom and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. It is for our freedom that Christ came, died, rose and sent us his Spirit. And He wants his children to enjoy freedom!
Question is whether his children live in freedom indeed. There was one rule in the garden: 10 rules on a stone tablet. Jewish Pharisees made hundreds of rules. The Jewish people became enslaved to rules and even became blinded by the same. What about Christians nowadays? What about you and me.....? As a child of Christ do you feel free? Or has legalism enslaved us? Which rules master over us?
It will be good to pause here and think for a moment what keeps you going all day. We may even be driven by rules we are not fully aware of. Also consider the motives and purposes behind our rules. Are they a result of wanting control or are they there to enrich our lives?
And let's not forget (subtle) habits, thoughts, worries, selfish needs.... which can control, frustrate, oppress and restrict us and can result in much physical and spiritual suffering.
To experience the freedom Christ has created for us, we first of all must dig deep within ourselves and get to know ourselves better. And then empty and clean ourselves from everything that is not of God and have our minds transformed by the Spirit. This process may not come naturally to most of us; much diligence in prayer (including thanksgiving), study and other spiritual disciplines is likely to be required, but with God on our side it won't be a burden. Everything we do in step with the Spirit does not frustrate nor irritate, but liberates!
We will experience freedom; become freed to love! Not by rule(!), but automatically as an overflow of the Spirit in us.
Where there is love, there is no need for rules. Freedom!
Prayer. Lord, thank you for the freedom you have created for us. Forgive me for not enjoying it to the fullest. As I want to surrender fully to you, point out to me all that still masters over me. Please help me to throw away this yoke, joyfully rely on Christ and FREELY love and live in Him.
