Easter is all about new beginnings.
Many Easter sermons rightly explain the
reasonableness of believing in the resurrection, others rightly explain what
the resurrection tells us about the Jesus who is ‘the resurrection and the
life’. But for those of us who believe, the key question is ‘So
what?’ For me, the ‘so what’ is the hope of eternal life, but also the
hope of a new beginning and many new beginnings here on earth. So often we
fail, we mess up, we soil the life we have been given; and after death to sin
on the cross, the resurrection of Jesus is the most wonderful source of
hope of clean, new, forgiven and empowered new beginnings. Tom Wright
wrote:
“Jesus's
resurrection is the beginning of God's new project not to snatch people away
from earth to heaven but to colonize earth with the life of heaven”
Imagine that... colonising the earth with the
life of heaven.
Christ is Risen.
He is risen indeed
Alleluia
